Joining the Fight

My small group is reading a book called "Radical" by David Platt.  It's an awesome book that brings my attention to a lot of things that I have (shamefully) tried to ignore.  It's also a really tough, challenging book to read...for me.  I struggle with guilt, and challenging books seem to bring those guilty feelings to the surface.  I am much better than I used to be at dealing with this and recognizing that guilt is not from God, and I try hard to squash them when I feel them welling up...but it's a constant battle.

Anyway, the last chapter we read was very inspiring.  Our group discussed a lot about spreading the gospel, and how many people on earth have never even HEARD of Jesus, much less know Him personally.  As horrifying as this is, the difficult part is that WE are called to do something about it.  Chapter 4, David says the following:  "He has created each of us to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, and I propose that anything less than radical devotion to this purpose is unbiblical Christianity."  He goes on to recognize and "smack down" all of the usual excuses we (I) use to consider ourselves exempt.  Things like "I am not called to do mission work, but I will send money to those who are called" and "there is plenty of work to do here in my [comfortable] town in the United States...people here are just as important."  While it's true, every soul is precious to God, the answer that seems so simple but was so hard to come to is this:  DO BOTH.  It's got to be both.  We have got to make use of our time wherever we are, and we can't settle.  It's comfortable to have a conversation now and then with friends, family, people at church.  Stretching outside of our comfort zones is a beautiful act of worship!  I want to participate!

Hi.  I'm shy.
So, if you know me, you know that I am extremely shy.  Not just quiet, but seriously, socially crappy.  I don't know if it's "social anxiety" or lack of self confidence or something else, but I have major issues here, and as my group discussed Chapter 4 of Radical, I got extremely emotional.  I want to be obedient and spread God's word, but I truly don't know if I can.  Then when I think that way, I feel guilty because I know that personally I can NOT do it by myself.  I need to trust that God will show up...and I don't think I am totally there yet.  I want to trust Him.  I know that he CAN, but I am afraid that be might NOT.  It was just a hard thing for me to swallow.  I want to spread God's word, but I am too afraid to talk.  How does that work?

One of our extremely wise group members :) made a comment at one point that "the biggest detriment to Christianity is a closed mouth."  I agree.  As the body of Christ, we are called to worship Him by sharing Him with others.  By the end of the evening, I had gone from hating myself for being so stuck, to realizing that I have unique gifts that are not the same as anyone else's gifts...and that's OK!  I don't have to be ashamed that I struggle with talking...I can celebrate that I can share in other ways.  I can JOIN THE FIGHT in ways that use who God made ME to be.  I can volunteer with kids, I can paint buildings, I can pray...and I can trust God and be willing to go to the nations in His timing.  It's exciting.  I feel free now.  I don't have to be held back by ME.

Welp, that was a lot of deep stuff talking about myself.  Tomorrow I am going to blog about some furniture my mom and I are painting for a special room in our house.  ;)   That will be a change of pace.

Fall Funtivities

I am sooo excited that Fall is coming (although it is definitely taking it's sweet time).  Mikey gets a few extra weekends to wakeboard while the water is warm, so I guess that is good.

We have so many funtivities planned for this fall, I want to get started.

Oktoberfest in Helen!
Cotton Pickin' Country Fair
Renting a cabin in Warm Springs (and eating at the best little restaurant)
Road Trip at some point in IN and Chicago to visit grandparents
Halloween
Cooking out WITHOUT the bugs
TV show nights with our friends (and of course, food)
Chocolate fountain party - Claire, I am counting on you!!
Hiking in North Georgia with the most beautiful trees
Thanksgiving and Christmas
I am sure there is lots more...but I am so excited I can't remember them all now.

Anyway, that was just on my mind so I thought I'd share.  :)  :)

Ta-hoe

I want to go there.  I think Northern California and Lake Tahoe areas are so beautiful and I can never fully get the idea of living there some day out of my head.  This October will be one year since I was out there visiting family, and it was such a fun trip.  My cousin Nate (Aunt Libby's son) and his family: Dawn (mom), Juniper (daughter) and Zeraphin (son) live out there.

Mom, Me, Z, Dawn, Juniper, Nate
They were kind enough to let us stay with them.  We did some fun stuff like apple picking, visiting a wine vineyard, and eating some delicious food.  My mom and I took a couple of day trips out towards Tahoe.

We stopped in Truckee...which is one of the coolest little towns EVER!  Mikey's dad used to live there for a couple of years when he was younger which is why we decided to stop, and I am so glad we did.  It was just so clean, people were healthy and kind, fun shops and dogs everywhere!  All around the town were little walking/hiking trails and unbelievable scenic overlooks.  It seems like another world.

Anyway, we had a blast and I WANT TO GO BACK.  I might be using up some of my vacation days in the next few weeks.  :)

Paint by Numbers

So, I mentioned in my last post that Mikey and I recently shared an anniversary.  I am somewhat ashamed to admit that after Mikey's romantic suprise list for me, my gift to him was a bit more juvenile (but maybe that fits??)

I created a scavenger hunt, where Mikey had to follow clues throughout the house to gather up lots of little silly presents.  He was one of the worst clue-decipherers I have ever seen.  My clues were very easy, but he kept wanting me to confirm everything before he would go look.  That's why it's a scavenger HUNT...because you are supposed to HUNT for the items, not ask the person who hid them.  I stayed tight-lipped and made him do most of the work.

One of my favorite gifts was a "Paint by Numbers" activity that I had to force him to do...but then he admitted that it was actually fun.  Here are some pics of Michelangelo and me....  :)

Getting started...

Seriously concentrating...we didn't make a sound for about half an hour!

Voila!  Beautiful, right? Ha!
Ta-da!

I realize this might look silly, but it was so fun.  Try it!

4 years?! Really??

On September 2, 2010, Mikey and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary.  I really can't believe it has been 4 years!  I still remember the details of our wedding like it was yesterday.  Best.Day.Ever.  I really am the luckiest girl in the world.  Mikey is the most generous, caring, selfless, hilarious, loving, wonderful person I have ever known.  Still don't know why he picked me, but I'll take it.  :)

September 2, 2006
He wrote me the most amazing list of why he loves me and posted it to facebook.  (He did this after I went to sleep because he knew I'd be shy about it).  I was even debating whether or not to post it on here, but it was so sweet, and it is definitely something I want to remember forever, so here is a little copy/paste action:

Here goes nothing...

Hi.
My name is Kacy.  I live in Peachtree City with my amazingly wonderful husband, Mikey and two fabulous golden retrievers, Shayla and Kaly.  I have been wanting to start a blog now for a long time, but just never got around to it.  Now that I am actually here, and doing my "first post," I am seriously nervous.  I know that's weird....not sure what exactly I am afraid of.  My blog-idol is my great friend Claire.  She is hilarious, smart, crafty and informative, and I seriously check multiple times each day to see if she has posted anything new.  Please don't compare this to Claire's blog...she is a pro...I am a novice.  :)
I haven't decided yet who I am going to share this little blog with.  We will see.  Anyway, I am kinda excited.  It's like journaling, without the hand cramps.
See ya soon!  I have to go think of something interesting to write about.
